The Alberta Administrative Licence Suspension (AALS) program immediately suspends a driver’s license if they are suspected of impaired driving. This includes if a driver exceeds legal alcohol or drug limits and even if the driver refuses a breath or blood sample. The administrative licence suspension is a two-stage, fixed-term penalty, with a 90-day initial suspension and a potential further one-year suspension, subject to Ignition Interlock Program participation.
