Dog Bites
Have you been injured due to a dog bite? Dog bites can be traumatic and can leave both physical and emotional scars.
Dog owners must adhere to the appropriate “standard of care”. Where a dog owner does not adhere to that “standard of care” and their dog bites a person, the dog owner may be liable for those injuries. If you have been injured as a result of a dog bite, you may have a claim for compensation. In some cases, a dog owner’s home insurance may provide coverage for dog bites.
At Moustarah & Company, we understand the difficulties that injuries caused by a dog bite can have on your life. That is why we are committed to providing outstanding service that is tailored to your needs, to help you during this difficult time.
What should I do if I was bitten or injured by a dog?
- Seek immediate medical attention if necessary
- Call the police and make a report
- Obtain a copy of the police report
- Get the name and contact information of the dog owner
- Get the names and contact information of any witnesses
- Document the incident – the type of dog, location, date and time, details of the attack
- Take pictures of your injuries – and if possible – of the dog
- Report the incident to the appropriate authority
- Contact Moustarah & Company – personal injury lawyers – in Edmonton for a free initial consultation
Once you have retained our firm, we request that any attempts to interview you by the owner of the dog or their insurance company be referred to our office. We want to make sure a lawyer from our office is present for any interview by the defendant or the insurance company.
What will happen to the dog after I report the bite or attack?
If Animal Control officers are notified of the attack, they will investigate the incident. If the injuries are serious, Animal Control will consider the seriousness of the attack, and any previous history of attacks by the animal, and have the option to request the dog be declared dangerous and may recommend that the dog be euthanized. The owner is entitled to a hearing in Court.
The report of a dog bite does not automatically lead to the dog being euthanized. The fate of the dog is determined by Animal Control and, if necessary, the Court.

Assault & Battery personal injury cases in Edmonton
Have you been injured as a result of an assault or battery?
You may have a claim against the person who caused you harm. It is important to gather the names and contact information of any witnesses. Since emotions are usually running high when the event takes place it is difficult for memories to be accurate regarding the sequence of events surrounding the assault or battery. This means that it is very important to have independent witnesses that can support your version of the events.
Report the incident to the police. Assaults and/or batteries are common criminal charges that can result from any kind of argument. Assault is typically the ‘threat of injury’, and battery is the actual contact.
At Moustarah & Company, our personal injury lawyers understand the difficulties that injuries caused by an assault or battery can have on your life. That is why we are committed to providing outstanding service that is tailored to your needs, to help you during this difficult time.

Medical malpractice personal injury cases in Edmonton
Have you been the victim of medical negligence or medical malpractice?
It is important to recognize that a bad outcome is not necessarily the result of medical malpractice or medical negligence on the part of the medical practitioner. Medical malpractice takes place when the individual providing health services deviates from the “standard of care” that should have been afforded to the patient. The “standard of care” will vary depending on the circumstances but it essentially constitutes the conduct that a reasonable medical provider would have taken (or would not have taken) under the same circumstances. If the health-care provider deviates from this “standard of care”, then it is likely that the provider was negligent and a malpractice claim could be pursued.
